The Romans in Britain

So here we are again, split-time story,

Unexpectedly. I had no clue

The Troubles would enter before act two

In tandem with Roman hegemony.

Perhaps the cause of controversy,

Not the buggery, swears or several nude

Scenes, but the National’s unpatriotic cues,

Way back when in old nineteen eighty.

I respond well to chronicle history

That dwells on material realities

& deals with the making of myths out of bones,

But that one narrative strategy

I’ve said several times deeply unhearts me,

As seemingly setting flux into hard stone.
